Like many epic sagas, the history behind Lewis MacLean Plumbing and Heating has endured a few bumps and bruises through the years, along with a lot of laughter and learning – ultimately leading to the success story it has become today.
The history of our family of companies brings together “Master Technician” George Lewis, and our CEO and “Service Innovator” Lynn MacLean – although both took wildly divergent paths to get here.
George and Lynn have combined their remarkable skill sets to build a business based on a model of excellence that will change the way you think about in-home service.

The Beginning 1960-1980
The roots of Lewis MacLean begin in the year 1960 with the formation of a company named Ted’s Plumbing, which was started by a guy named, well, Ted.
Ted was a life-long, hands-on plumber and businessman who built his company into a hugely successful enterprise throughout the Lower Mainland, specializing in the new construction trade. At its height, the company was running 10 crews non-stop, building a reputation for hiring the best people, by standing by their word, and doing what they said they would do for their clients.
During this time, in the late 70’s, a talented young man named George was just beginning his plumbing career. A career that now spans almost 40 years, and has taken him from 100 Mile House, to Toronto, and finally back to the Lower Mainland where he was born.
The 80’s and 90’s
George and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Ted continued his successful run with Ted’s Plumbing and Heating throughout the 1980’s, but as 1990 rolled around he began to think of retirement.
It must have been kismet, when the early 1990s, Ted hired an energetic plumber and gas fitter named George Lewis.
Despite their age difference, Ted knew he had met a kindred soul in George, who had just moved back to the West Coast from Toronto, where he worked for one of the biggest plumbing and heating companies. Over a period of 9 years, George had worked his way from technician all the way up to management.
George learned a lot in these years, not the least of which was how to focus on clients to meet their needs; and to stand by his word for the 1000’s of clients he served every year. Ted believed in this as well, and as he approached retirement he knew he could trust George to protect his legacy.
First they became partners in 1993, then George bought Ted’s Plumbing and Heating, and Ted happily retired to Montana.
Seeing the writing on the wall for the new construction trades, George changed Ted’s from strictly new construction, into a plumbing, heating, and drain Service Company.
In the late 90’s, George met a woman named Lynn while plumbing in her home. They quickly learned they shared the same high standards for how to do things in life and became fast friends. Since 1998, they’ve been together building the Lewis family of Companies with the idea that there’s a much better way for the service industry to treat clients in their own homes.
2000-2010 Expanding the Brand
When 2000 hit, George – being a restless soul – was getting a little bored with just one company.
Now when most people get bored, they get a dog or pick up a hobby like knitting or collecting Civil War-era plates.
Not George, nope – he added more companies and started Lewis Mechanical as the parent company.
Much to the horror of his Board of Directors, who is a conservative bunch, George decided he wanted the Lewis brand to be more expansive and include more heating services.
So he started his search, and in 2003 George bought Valley Furnace Service to add to his roster of heating clients.
Oops – here he goes again…
Also in the early 2000’s, a well-known White Rock plumber named Don Klatt was pondering retirement and looking to find somebody he could trust to take care of his clients, and give them the personal touch they were accustomed to. He found that person in George, who bought White Rock Plumbing and Heating, along with Ring…The PlumberServices from Don.
The clients of these companies soon learned that they could rely on George to deliver a new level of Service Excellence they had been missing. People must have liked it because by 2009 we had more than 20,000 clients in our database.
2010 to Present…
Staking New Territory
George never did find a hobby to go with his go-getter energy level so he decided in 2010 that instead of buying another company he would just start another one. Oops, he did it again.
After being contacted by a large number of homeowners and business owners there, George looked at the community of Abbotsford and saw people weren’t getting the level of service expertise they deserved. Many residents were being forced to call companies all the way in Vancouver trying to get some service.
Thus, Abbotsford Plumbing and Heating was born to service this eastern Fraser Valley community, and George brought world-class service right to their front doors.
During these years the Lewis MacLean family of Companies, through the tutelage of our resident Service Innovator Lynn MacLean, also greatly expanded its model of service to provide the very best for our clients.
